Dear Dayre,
Firstly, OMG MULTIPLE PHOTO UPLOAD WOOHOOOO!!!
Caught the premiere of Les Mis at Esplanade last night and it was just as good as the first time I caught it in Manila, if not even better! ππ»
Imma huge fan of musicals, in case you didn't know. My favourite is Phantom but Les Mis comes a close second. I love the music for both musicals! So rousing and heart-rending, so much feels~~~
Thanks to VizPro International for the tickets ππ»
Curtain call at the end of the show!
It was veryyyy good ππ»ππ»ππ» Super respect all the actors and actresses! They do such a good job in every single show!
If you remember I went for a short press trip to Manila to catch a preview of the musical, as well as go on a back-stage tour and meet the cast π»
I've blogged about it on www.yinagoh.com!
I've always wanted to go backstage of a musical and it was such a cool experience to see behind-the-scenes and find out what goes on backstage!
The wardrobe section. Did you know that the average female actress in Les Mis has about 40 pcs of apparels hahaha. Crazy or what?
They take on multiple roles too so like after Fantine dies in the show, the actress Patrice Topoki actually will play other smaller parts in the show.
Another cool thing is that every single production of Les Mis across the globe has got the exact same costumes made from the exact same fabric.
I NEVER KNEW THAT!
Wigs made for characters like Jean Valjean. It's all real human hair and they have to be cleaned EVERY SINGLE DAY after the show!
Needs to be washed and then dried in a special oven. Never knew all these stuff that went on backstage.
Also, every single cast member has got their very own makeup and skincare stuff that they're not allowed to share or use if it's not theirs.
I got to go on the barricades too in the famous Barricade scene!!
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SINGGGG, SINGING THE SONGS OF ANGRY MEN π€π€π€
Random Stage Trivia: you know how certain stage sets like the house gates (in Cosette and Maurius duet scene) magically appear on stage? There's actually a track system and also invisible men who push the sets sitting behind the sets where they stay for the whole scene and read a book cos they can't go off-stage if not they will be seen by the audience π
When I met Simon Gleeson (aka Jean Valjean). He's also friends with Hugh Jackman FYI. Hahaha cool stuff.
Anyway it's really not easy to be a Broadway actor. His family travels with him on every tour and his two daughters actually go along and his family all stays in a hotel room together whereever they travel.
So during the day time, Simon Gleeson basically spends his time with his daughters and in the evening, he does the show. They don't really go out to sight-see and all that.
Javert, played by Earl Carpenter ππ» He is also known for his role as Phantom on West End! *swoons*
Interesting fact: Earl Carpenter is the same age as Javert in Les Miserables!
The scene of Javert's soliloquy (where he jumps to his death on the bridge) is damn epic. Thanks to the new projection technology they're using in this production of Les Mis!
These two young eye-candies are Paul Wilkins (Maurius) and Chris Durling (Enjolras)!
Paul Wilkins has a pretty good voice too!! Thought he did a good job as Maurius.
Most of the cast are Australian with a few exceptions here and there. But I'd say it's one of the best travelling casts I've seen in Singapore!
I really like Kerrie Ann Greenland, who plays Eponine. Her voice is just stunning. You have to hear it live to know what I mean! And she's really sweet IRL too, hope to see more of her in bigger roles soon!
I was especially awestruck by the complexity of the props using in the show!
For instance, there's one scene where there's a beggar/rat-catcher (bet you don't even know which scene hahaha cos it's such a small character) and these rats are hanging off a stick.
They were rubber canine toys but were repainted and made into fake rat props by the props department! π±
And… Those bunnies were real live bunnies.. Once upon a time. πππ They were sourced from a taxidermist (the guys who stuff dead animals) ermmmmmm a little creepy but woahhhh at the amount of effort.
If I'm not wrong, they make an appearance in the "Master of the House" scene in the inn. Haha!
It's all these little details that makes the entire experience so immersive and real!
