✨四点金✨

Dear Dayre,

I'm behind again!
>.<

Well, the big day is approaching sooner than I am getting prepared for and YZ's mama aka my future in-law brought me out to buy my 四点金✨ today!

I'm not sure how traditional it is to get 四点金, but my family is Teochew so apparently it is pretty much a must to have 四点金.

One of the most familiar practice for the bride’s parents to request for 四点金 as part of betrothal gifts from the groom’s parent to the bride.

The purpose in the olden days is to ensure that the bride will be married to a wealthy family and guaranteed a carefree & happy life.

Unfortunately, my parents being the fairly traditional type, no such thing as buying a couple of gold bars instead of jewellery (AKA what @evonnz did) because you know, the traditional set consisting of four pieces of gold jewellery is somehow more presentable looking than gold bars that have actual value.

Well, to me it's really just a 习俗 and 意思, so it doesn't matter to me and besides I have no say in it anyway. 😰

YZ's mother was kind enough to bring me along because she wanted me to pick out pieces I liked, though traditional gold jewellery isn't something I would usually wear.

What I picked out! Just simple pieces.

And.. My 龙凤镯! I really like this piece actually. It's for my MIL to present to me during the tea ceremony!

I didn't know that you get free gifts when you buy gold, lol. The shop had a section of household products to choose from and we got a couple of small hair dryers wahaha handy for bringing overseas!

And just these few pieces of gold jewellery cost almost four thousand dollars. Not cheap at all aiyo. All for the sake of tradition.

But this is really very pretty! A modern interpretation of the 龙凤镯 that somehow still has a very ornate and traditional feel. I think it may even work as a statement accessory even with my own clothes haha.

Still find it very heartpain and expensive to spend so much on these jewelry.

Thank you 未来妈妈!
