Dear Dayre,

Saturday marks my first rehearsal back at choir after my applied leave during the CNY period.

Back to looking at confusing scores and singing singing singing!

I joined the choir in 2008 ๐Ÿ˜จ That makes it my 7th year in the choir ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Can't believe I've stuck to it for so many years! I thought I'd have given up a long time ago. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

A few surprises:

1. I couldn't read music at all when I joined the SYC Ensemble Singers ๐Ÿ˜จ I get through by guessing and listening.. I can read the note middle C and high C and that's about it ๐Ÿ™ˆ

2. I don't sing Soprano in the choir.. I sing Alto (the lowest female part)

3. I haven't had any formal musical, instrumental or vocal training in my life, everything that I know was self-taught and learnt from friends and mentors

What I love about the choir is that it keeps me singing, although it is a pretty huge commitment with two rehearsals a week and frequent performances and engagements. I've always loved music, not just pop music but choral music as well and I enjoy singing in a group as much as I do singing by myself.

We do all kinds of music that really pushes the boundaries of comtemporary music, and even though I'm not so musically and artistically inclined to say I know exactly what every piece of music is going on about, I just enjoy the physical aspects of singing, creating music and harmonies ๐Ÿ™‚

I got to sing the most gorgeous solo part for this beautiful piece: Lux Aeterna (you can find the full piece on YouTube: google Lux Aeterna SYC Ensemble Singers)

You have to pardon my ugly singing faces ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

I always look damn ugly when I'm singing but what the heck

We do all kinds of music, from pop to classical to weird pieces like this rhythmic Spanish piece ๐Ÿ‘โœ‹๐Ÿ‘

Pop songs too: this is Sarah Mclachlan's Angel

Please go to SYC Ensemble Singers YouTube page to listen to full recordings, there are 70 uploaded videos! ๐Ÿ™‚

I've travelled a lot with the choir, from Indonesia (Manado), to places like Japan, Italy, Poland and this year we are going to Spain for an international choral competition! The sights and sounds we get to experience during our travels are incredible.

Sounds so secondary school CCA but ๆดปๅˆฐ่€ๅญฆๅˆฐ่€! Some members of the SYC Ensemble Singers have been in the choir for 20 over years! Cool ain't it?

Made some of my closest friends in the choir too. ๐Ÿ’•

Everyone needs a hobby or a passion, methinks. Life can't be just about work and work alone right?
