Review: Benefit Fake Up Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer!

If I had to choose just one makeup essential that I can't do without, it has got to be CONCEALER without a doubt! God knows how badly I need concealer, especially for my dark eye rings and blemishes.. I can skip the eyeliner, the mascara, or even the brow pencil, but to look even remotely presentable, concealer is a must-have for me!

I've tried many many brands of concealers in order to find the best ones that will help camouflage those horrid dark eye rings of mine, and I dare say I'm somewhat of a Concealer Connoisseur (hey that sounds pretty cool!). LOL.

I'm always on the lookout for good coverage concealers, but many a times, it seems that with great power comes great responsibility. And why do I say so? Because the better the coverage, the thicker and dryer the formula of the concealer will most likely be, resulting in unwanted creases and a cakey, unnatural finish.

Banish all your concealer woes with Benefit's star product of the year: the Fake Up Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer! When it comes to "faking" beauty, Benefit knows no bounds, and I was incredibly impressed with this innovative concealer that's set to take over the cover-up industry by storm! Like they say it, "We fake it til we make it!", what an awesome slogan!

Attended the press event for this amazing product last week, and it was a well-executed and fun event that had us all in laughter! An amusing skit was put up by the Benefit team, as we arrived at the "crime scene" to investigate who might have been the mastermind behind the stolen Fake Up Concealers!

Photobooth fun with Evonne and Arissa! Everyone loves a good photo, especially with cute props to play around with!

With my favourite company! :D

Thank you Benefit for keeping our tummies happy too! :)

I really like the sleek and handy lipstick style packaging of the product, all you need to do is to uncap it and twist it before applying it onto your skin directly!

As you can tell from the swatch, the hydrating ring portion of the concealer is extremely emollient, and the concealer glides on like a dream onto the skin.

I use my fingers to blend and tap it in afterwards, and I swear this is probably the creamiest and most hydrating concealer I've ever used! It is also very lightweight, and you'd love how the light-reflecting technology in this product help to illuminate the undereye area and diffuses light to smooth out any fine lines.

The coverage is medium, and will help to conceal most mild to moderate cases of dark eye circles and blemishes. For serious cases of dark eye circles, this works great as a base concealer (after which I layer another concealer for even better coverage) because it's so moisturizing that it helps other concealers go on better over it.

Shade 02, Medium, works well on me.

Tap and blend the concealer gently!

Fake Up Crease-Control Hydrating Concealer will be available in Singapore at SGD38 island-wide at Benefit counters in April 2013.

Salon Vim: Lovin' my Pink & Purple Highlights!

Hello all!

This is quite an overdue post.. SO SORRY ABOUT IT. But I gotta say, my latest hair color is amazingly stunning and I am so in love with it! And it is incredibly lasting as well.. It's been almost a month since I got these pink/purple streaks done, and they are still looking absolutely gorgeous!

So in love with pink/purple hair still. Hahaha I don't know why I love the pink hair so much, but I really do! I always felt that something was amiss whenever I did my hair red last time, but somehow, pink hair makes me feel completely at ease and just feels so... ME. It's kind of hard to explain, isn't it?

This time round, I went to the salon on two occasions, the first session was to trim/color my hair, and then i went back again for hair treatment because I didn't have enough time during the first session!

Part One: The Color + Hair Cut

It's been a good two months since my last visit to Salon Vim, and the previous pink/purple/ash highlights I did had mostly faded to a light ash color, which was starting to look rather dry and unkempt!

I requested for Stephanie to cover up the ash highlights, and also touched up my black roots which had grown out quite a far bit!

I've gotten alot inquiries asking if bleaching is required for my pink/purple highlights, and yes, bleaching is actually required for those streaks to be highlighted pink/purple, but because I already had the ash highlights put in previously, all Stephanie did was to cover up the ash highlights with the pink/purple! :)

Stephanie applying the highlights on.. Vibrant pink and purple!

With the highlights in, my base color was touched up at the roots to a matte brown tone!

And... TAADAAAAA..... Isn't this completely lovely? Stephanie is sucha genius when it comes to blending those colors together, and the effect is totally mesmerizing!

And I snipped off a good two inches off the hair, somehow this slightly-longer-than-shoulder-length hair seems to suit me the best I feel!

My amazing hair stylist, Stephanie! After entrusting my hair to Steph for the past almost two years, I feel totally secure in her hands. Heh. Steph never fails to work wonders on my hair, and after our two year long relationship, she's more like a good friend than a hair stylist to me now!

I really really love the amazing blend of pink and purple streaks mingled with the matte brown base color!

Check out the back view~ Looks so gorgeous!

Part Two: Redken Chemistry Cocktail Treatment!

Four days later, I popped by the salon again, to get hair treatment done! If you get frequent coloring and bleaching done so often like I do, hair treatment is absolutely essential to ensure that your hair condition is kept as healthy as possible!

This time, I also brought Gina along because she needed to get a hair cut as well! Lucky her, she was assigned Gary as her hairstylist!

Gina wants to grow out her hair, so she asked Gary to trim her hair in such a way that it'd grow out nicely.

Doing my favourite Redken Chemistry Cocktail Treatment! I love it that the Redken Chemistry Cocktail treatment is especially customised for me, to ensure that optimal results are achieved!

The different components are mixed together in a cocktail shaker, before being applied liberally to the hair.

And out comes the steam machine! It always makes me feel like I'm in an onsen. Hahaha. This step is important though because the steam helps to open up the hair cuticles so that the treatment can penetrate deeper into your hair to do its magic!

Finally.. finishing off with blowdrying, and I swear there is some kind of magic going on at Salon Vim because they always manage to blowdry my hair into perfection... SOMEHOW. EVERY TIME! Is damn chio de.

And here's the final end result! Soft, bouncy, shiny hair thanks to Redken Chemistry Cocktail Treatment, and the most gorgeous hair color everrrrrrr!

And with sissy Gina! Who's pretty pleased with her haircut as well, it looks so much neater and more stylish after Gary worked his magic fingers on sissy's hair! Yay! We both left the salon happy campers!

No better way to start the new year than with a pretty head of hair. So in love with this hair color! I am ever eternally grateful to Salon Vim for being my hair sponsor for the past two years.. I have honestly not had to worry about my hair at all!

There's still time to go get your hair done before CNY, so give Salon Vim a call to book your appointment soon! Quote my blog/name to get 10% off all hair services too! Go get pretty!!!

Lunch at Violet Oon's Kitchen + Accessorize with Sort And Pepper!

For those in the know, Violet Oon has been a long standing authority in our local culinary scene. As one of Singapore's pioneer celebrity chefs, she has written cookbooks, appeared on TV shows, and is well-recognized as a guru on Nonya/Peranakan cuisine! (I have to admit.. I've never heard of her but that's because I'm like a mountain tortoise :( 山龟)

Violet Oon's Kitchen is a newly set up family establishment by the Oon family, and thanks to a special Sort and Pepper Shakers lunch organized by Jazlyn of Sort and Pepper, we got the good fortune to taste the wonderful food at Violet Oon's Kitchen!

Violet Oon's Kitchen

881 Bukit Timah Road
Tel: 64685430

The restaurant is tucked away in a row of shophouses along Bukit Timah Road, which could be pretty out of the way, especially if you don't drive.

The interior decor is sleek and polished, with contrasting white/black tiles and gives off a wonderfully modernistic and contemporary vibe. Kind of reminds me of PS Cafe!

The cakes that caught my eye even before we started lunch.. was eyeing them already! Hehe.

Home-made cookies and jam available in little jars for purchase!

I really like the simple typography on the logo! So stylish and minimalistic at the same time.

The menu features a variety of food, mainly segregated into two sections: Western and Peranakan. We ordered a variety to share! We were really hungry and ended up over-ordering... too much food for just four ladies. HAHAHA.

Winged Bean Kerabu Salad $11
Our starter! I thought the winged beans were really special (they look like shuriken!) , but I didn't quite know how to appreciate the raw taste of the beans with the strong belacan chilli and onions in this dish. Haha.

Chap Chye $8
I love love love chap chye in any form and this was delish! Loved the thick gravy and how the cabbage and vegetables were cooked til they were soft and absorbed all the goodness of the gravy. Yums!

Beef Rendang $22
Perfect with the nasi kuning (yellow rice), I loved the spicy and flavourful curry, though the beef was slightly on the tough side.

Pulled Beef Ragu Rigatoni $24
MY FAVOURITE DISH! This was so so so so good! The pulled beef was tender and well-marinated and with the penne pasta in the rich meaty ragu sauce, it was absolutely tantalizing!

Buah Keluak Ayam $22
Another one that's heavy on the spices, but I thought the Beef Rendang was better, haha.

Dry Laksa $17
A must-try dish at Violet Oon's Kitchen, a fresh take on our local favourite: Laksa! This dry version reminds me of a pasta, but with that awesome laksa kick and I could also taste coconut milk in it, which made it really fragrant. Best for sharing cos it may get a little jelat after a few mouthfuls.

ViO's Shephard's Pie $19
Strangely enough, I seem to enjoy the Western dishes more at Violet Oon's, and this Shephard's Pie got me addicted, digging into it spoonful after spoonful!! The smooth layer of mashed potato hides a tasty stewed ground beef that was really deliciousss! We were absolutely stuffed, but still managed to finish off almost the entire pie :P

Jazlyn and Jayne enjoying the yummy food!

We had to have the desserts there despite our tummies being already filled to the brim.. and also because I had asked for a special surprise cake for Apple! Hehehe. This girl just turned 21 years old the day before our lunch so I thought it wasn't too late for one more cake for her ♥

Sticky Date Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream $12
Our "cake", sticky date toffee pudding with ice cream, this is really for the sweet-toothed! The butterscotch/caramel sauce surrounded the cake and ice cream like an oasis haha. A little too sweet for my taste buds but I honestly cannot resist any sticky date toffee pudding and much of this ended up in my stomach :P

Happy belated 21st, dear Apple!
(You can tell how backdated this entry is. LOL.)

Burbor Cha Cha Panna Cotta $9
Before we retired our overly satisfied tummies for the day, we had this highly recommended dessert, Elements of the classic Burbor Cha Cha has been incorporated into the traditional panna cotta, with Gula Melaka and Coconut Milk. I loved the texture and how all the flavours blended together so well! Jayne nearly died with the awesome Gula Melaka and couldn't stop gushing about it! Haha.

The ambassadors/bloggers for Salt and Pepper, also known as Salt and Pepper Shakers (cute name or what! hehehe) together with Jazlyn!

Thanks for lunch, Jaz!!

So, moving on to Sort and Pepper, I am really loving all the accessories brought in by Jaz, and you will probably find many of them familiar because I have been using them for TheVelvetDolls shoots, and also been dressing up with them!

Sort and Pepper has got a wonderful variety of accessories, ranging from quirkier ones, to the vintage, and some that are really elegant and classic! I like how all of them are really unique and stylish, each with their very own character!

I had the chance to show off and wear my new accessories from Sort and Pepper this week, so here's some photos of the week's happenings as well!

On the day of the Lancôme's Black and White press event I attended, I was going for a slightly more edgy/rock vibe in monotone shades!

With my dear Evonne at the event. (Please ignore random faces at the back. LOL)

The products we were introduced to at the press event! I am really excited to try them already!
Lancome Blanc Expert Melanolyser Integral Whiteness Spot Eraser & Masks
Lancôme Hypnose Star Waterproof Mascara feat Betty Boop
(Pictures credit to Evonne!)

The full outfit (already blogged a pic of it earlier, but here's a better quality picture anyhow!) as seen, with my long layered necklace from Sort and Pepper! It went really well with my other accessories and I thought it finished off the entire look perfectly with its edgy chic style!

Like a Rock Star Cluster Long Necklace can be purchased here :)

Had a date with girlfriends in town last Friday, so I dressed up a little, and thought this lovely necklace complemented my hair and outfit perfectly!

With the gorgeous girlfriends Val, Evonne and Jayne, because we popped by Sœurs for a visit!

We went to Antoinette at Mandarin Gallery for dinner and catch-up session! Yums.
Had the Antoinette Salad again and it was as yummy as I remembered.
A full outfit coordinate together with Evonne hehe. I really like how the necklace added a pop of color and extra detail to my outfit!
Lace Peplum Top in Black and Leather Panelled Skirt in Camel upcoming on TheVelvetDolls!

Paired it with my Burgundy 13" Cambridge Satchel which I'm bringing out for some fresh air because I've abandoned it for awhile now (I have this bad habit of not changing my bag once I start using one. Haha!) Loving the entire getup, if I do say so myself. Lol :D

Round Gems Hanging on a Tree Branch Necklace can be purchased here :)

New arrivals come in on Sort and Pepper every Wednesday, so check it out weekly for your dose of fabulously fashionable accessories!

The rain has been dampening my spirits this Sunday and all I wanna do is to sleeeeeeep :( Having an unproductive day and looks like it's gonna be a long night for me again cos I need to get lots of work done!

Work hasn't been easy, cos the collections this month are like almost twice as big as usual, and that means twice the amount of work, so it's been really taxing on me and the staff. But we must press on!!! Trying not to get burned out by staying really positive and being as chill and stressed-free as possible! Jiayou jiayou!! *flexes muscles* I have to thank God that at the end of the day, I'm working for myself, and doing what I love to do. It's not all a bed of roses everyday, but I know I am absolutely blessed already and have everything to be thankful for!

Weekend's drawing to a close, so I hope everyone had a well-rested weekend, and that next week will be a fabulous one!
